Sun Safety

By: Katie Tume

For People & Planet

Some things change – the size of your sunhat, the soundtrack to your summer road trip – but our commitment to safe, sustainable sun care has stayed the same since 1971.

A bit of sunshine lifts the spirits and tops up vitamin D, but too much can do real harm to our skin – and, sadly, to the seas. At Infinity, we’ve been chipping away at change by choosing products that protect people and the planet alike. Here’s what that means, and why it matters.

Mineral vs. Chemical Sunscreens

Sunscreens come in two camps. Chemical ones soak into your skin and absorb UV rays, but many use ingredients linked to hormone disruption – and once they rinse off, they can damage coral reefs and marine life. It’s thought that 4,000–6,000 tonnes of sunscreen wash into the oceans each year, contributing to coral bleaching and other harm.

Mineral sunscreens, made with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, sit on top of your skin and bounce UV rays away. But there’s a catch: when ground into nanoparticles, even minerals can enter the body or drift into the water in ways we don’t fully understand. Still, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has found non-nano mineral sunscreens to be among the safest, most effective choices out there. That’s why we stock them.

Understanding SPF

SPF measures how much longer you can stay in the sun without burning, compared to bare skin. Fair skin might naturally burn after about 10 minutes; SPF50 extends that to roughly 500 minutes – but only if you reapply as directed.

Sweating, swimming, and towel-drying all rub sunscreen away, so topping up often matters more than the number on the bottle. It’s not just about higher SPF – it’s about sensible, regular use.

Sustainable Sunscreen at Infinity

We prioritise sustainability and safety. We never knowingly stock products containing mineral oils, parabens, SLS/SLES, microbeads, phthalates or microplastics, and we never sell products with unsustainable palm oil derivatives. All of our products are cruelty-free, marine-safe, and free from nanoparticles.

We are committed to finding sun care options that are both effective and eco-friendly. Our curated selection of sunscreen brands offers safe choices for your skin and the planet.

The bigger picture

We believe sun care shouldn’t cost the earth. That’s why we keep our selection honest, affordable, and certified organic wherever possible. Good for you, good for marine life, good for your pocket.

There’s a better way to live.
